Six Flags' Mr. Six Nixed
Monday December 5, 2005
After the recent Six Flags board shakeup (see 1st and Ten for Snyder), the new regime has announced it plans to pull the plug on Mr. Six, the spry, bow-tied oldster with the happy feet. According to the Boston Herald, the chain's new overseers want to downplay the thrill factor and teen appeal and reposition the theme parks as more of a destination for children and their families. The gonzo Mr. Six doesn't fit the warm, cuddly part. Ironically, after a few disappointing years, attendance and revenue were up this year, and the old regime partly credited the popular Mr. Six ad campaign for the upturn. In other Six Flags news, Six Flags New England will likely debut two new rides it inherited from the shuttered Six Flags Astroworld: Diablo Falls and Sky Swatter. The former is a spinning white water raft ride that will replace the park's log flume, while the latter is a 48-passenger, compressed-air contraption that looks like two giant fly swatters attached to a swinging arm. Both rides will require town approval before they can open for the 2006 season.
