Babe on the Beach...in Minnesota!...in December!
Friday December 2, 2005
With about 30 indoor water park resorts, Wisconsin is the undisputed chlorination capital, but other Midwest states are H2O-happy as well. Minnesota, in particular, has seen a slew of new water park/hotels open recently. Among the latest to tap into the hot trend is the Paul Bunyan Waterpark at The Lodge at Brainerd Lakes in Baxter. The giant lumberjack's trusty blue ox, Babe, figures prominently in the water park and helps reinforce its theme. The park's enclosed body slide, which travels outside the building, is made of clear acrylic (most water slide tubes are opaque), so riders are able to see the sights--including snowfall--as they careen in climate-controlled comfort. It also features a tube slide that allows riders to choose holographic images and sounds. And the Paul Bunyan Waterpark offers a heated outdoor patio floor to take the sting away for guests who brave the indoor-to-outdoor hot tub in chilly weather. Read more about the new resort.
