Water, Water (Parks) Everywhere--Even Indoors

Wednesday November 9, 2005
The indoor water park explosion continues. Industry leader Great Wolf Resorts recently opened its Pocono Mountains Great Wolf Lodge. At 78,000 square feet, the Pennsylvania resort's indoor water park is one of the chain's largest and features some exciting attractions, including an uphill water coaster and a wave pool. The family-friendly resort offers 400 all-suite rooms--but lovebirds seeking one of the Poconos' legendary heart-shaped bathtubs will have to look elsewhere. (Perhaps Great Wolf should have built its activity pool in the shape of a giant heart. Then again, they wouldn't want to encourage any, er, amorous activity.) This coming spring, the chain will open its first resort outside the U.S., the Great Wolf Lodge at Niagara Falls in Ontario, Canada (in partnership with Ripley's Entertainment.) In late 2006, two more Great Wolf Lodge resorts are scheduled to open: the Great Wolf Lodge at Paramount's Kings Island in Ohio (in partnership with the amusement park), and the Great Wolf Lodge in Grand Mound, Washington (in partnership with The Confederated Tribes of the Chehalis Reservation). In the summer of 2007, the Midwest-based chain will open its southernmost property yet, the Great Wolf Lodge in Grapevine, Texas.
