The Latest Buzz from Orlando

Saturday November 5, 2005
Florida's Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando are similar in many ways. The two resorts offer idyllic family vacations complete with lavishly themed hotels, rollicking dining/nightclub/shopping entertainment complexes, and world-class theme parks filled with cutting-edge attractions and cuddly costumed characters. But Universal has forged its own brash brand of in-your-face theme park fun. To use a dated classic rock analogy, Universal is the bad-boy Rolling Stones yang to Disney's mop-top Beatles yin. Disney has Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party; Universal scares the devil out of everyone with Halloween Horror Nights. Disney has It's a Small World; Universal nearly blows up the world in T2: 3-D. So what will the bad boys (and girls) at Universal be doing while the Disney crowd sips chardonnay and samples caviar at Epcot's International Food and Wine Festival, which continues through November 13? Why, they'll be chugging brew and chowing down on ribs at Universal CityWalk's Orlando Beer Festival. The two-day event will be held Saturday and Sunday, November 12 and 13. The suds blowout will feature more than 100 varieties of beer, raucous live entertainment, and lip-smacking smokehouse grub. Whether you prefer to let it be wine or get your satisfaction from beer (or enjoy both), drink up me 'earties, yo ho!
