Cedar Point to Swing High--and Low--Next Season

Tuesday November 1, 2005
As if there wasn't enough screaming going on at Ohio's Cedar Point already, the park just announced that it will be debuting Skyhawk, an extreme swing ride, next spring. The huge contraption will consist of two 84-foot arms attached to a 103-foot tower. Using a compressed air system, each arm will swing two rows of ten seats back and forth and reach heights of 125 feet. Skyhawk will hit 60 mph and deliver some powerful positive and negative G-forces. Want to see the monster in action? Check out the Skyhawk preview video. Probably because they were spooked by lower attendance in 2005 (soaring gas prices was the likely culprit), Cedar Point officials will be lowering admission fees next season. For example, the park is chopping $5 off a regular one-day admission ticket from $44.95 to $39.95. Cedar Point will hold the line at $9.95 for its Junior (under 48 inches tall) and Senior (ages 62 and older) tickets that it introduced this August. (Junior tickets had been $24.95 before that.) And if that's not a sweet-enough deal, guests will be able to pick up cotton candy on the midway for 25 cents a stick.
