Coaster Fans: Wanna Be on TV?
Thursday October 20, 2005
Next season is shaping up as another great one for new roller coasters--wooden ones in particular. While rocket coasters, fourth-dimension coasters, diving coasters, and a wild array of other steel thrill machines have generally upstaged traditional woodies the past few years, three high-profile wood coasters are set to roll out in the spring: The Voyage at Holiday World in Indiana, El Toro at Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey, and an as-yet unnamed coaster at Beech Bend Park in Kentucky. The confluence of new wood coasters caught the attention of The Discovery Channel, which will be capturing their construction and featuring the three rides in an hour-long, high-definition documentary as part of its series, "Building the Biggest." Here's where you can help--and get yourself on the tube. The producers of the program are seeking home movie footage to supplement its content about the history of roller coasters and amusement parks. Specifically, they're looking for Super 8, Super 16, and other film formats from the 1970s and earlier showing families visiting parks with wooden roller coasters. If you have footage that may fit the bill, email Richard Bradley (a producer at UK-based North One Television) with a brief description of your film and its year of origin. Who knows? Grainy, nostalgia-drenched shots of you and your family whooping it up at a park may end up on a high-def TV show.
