Some Enchanted Weekend

Thursday August 11, 2005
Disneyland isn't the only park celebrating its Golden Anniversary this year. The Enchanted Forest, a fairy-tale themed park in Ellicott City, MD is also turning 50. Well, it would be turning 50 if it hadn't closed its doors in the late 1980s. Nonetheless, the birthday bash is on at Clark's Elioak Farm, also in Ellicott City. This weekend, August 13 and 14, the farm will be hosting The Enchanted Forest's 50th Birthday Benefit Extravaganza. In addition to music, storytelling, and other merriment, the farm will be displaying artifacts, a photo gallery, and a scale model of the park. Maryland Governor Robert Erhlich will be on hand Sunday to help auction stones from the park's razed Cinderella Castle. Proceeds from the auction and event will help fund restoration of additional Enchanted Forest artifacts as Clark's painstakingly moves giant lollipops, gingerbread men, and other treasures to the permanent Enchanted Forest exhibit it is developing at its farm. I take my (plumed prince) hat off to the volunteers and others working to rekindle the spirit and preserve the memory of this small piece of Americana.
