It's a Small Country After All
Monday August 1, 2005
Hong Kong Disneyland hasn't opened yet (it's scheduled to debut this September), but Disney is already planning to build a second theme park resort in China. Citing the Hong Kong Economic Times, China Knowledge Online reports that Disney will begin preliminary plans for a park in Shanghai next year, with construction beginning in 2008 and an opening scheduled for 2012. The Mainland China property is reportedly three times as large as the Hong Kong site. There was no indication whether the park will be another clone of the original Disneyland or if it will feature a different theme. No hotels are part of the Shanghai plans.
