Here in the States, it's Independence Day weekend, and my guess is that many folks who visit this site will be heading out to theme parks, amusement parks, and water parks. T'is the season! Chances are, most of you have already made your plans, but if you're looking for some suggestions, here are four of the very best that parks have to offer. Keep these in mind for your future day trip or vacation plans as well.
  1. Boulder Dash at Lake Compounce, CT.
What could be more all-American than a wooden roller coaster? In my opinion, this magnificent woodie, built into the side of a mountain, is the very best. And it's located at the country's oldest, continuously operating amusement park.
  2. The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man at Universal Orlando, FL
The most sophisticated attraction on the planet, Spider-Man blurs the line between virtual and reality so well that you'll emerge slack-jawed and awe-struck.
  3. Splashin' Safari Water Park at Holiday World, IN
Things will be heating up this weekend, and water parks are great places to cool down. Splashin' Safari is one of the best and features a huge new wave pool this season. General admission includes entry to the water park and the dry ride park, which uses holidays for themes and includes a Fourth of July section. How convenient!
  4. Mrs. Knott's Famous Chicken Dinner at Knott's Berry Farm, CA
Folks will be gathering together and celebrating with lots of food, especially hot dogs and hamburgers, this weekend. How about indulging in another red, white, and blue staple, fried chicken, at Knott's? You may want to wait until after you've ridden Ghost Rider, Silver Bullet, and the park's other great coasters.
