Indoor Theme Park Near Montreal Planned
Monday June 27, 2005
It's cold most of the time in Canada, but that doesn't mean Canadians can't have fun. Predating the US indoor water park craze, folks have been surfing the waves and zooming down the slides year-round at the climate-controlled World Waterpark inside the West Edmonton Mall for a number of years. The mall also features Galaxyland, an indoor amusement park, mini-golf, ice-skating, and other attractions. A group of developers are planning a similar entertainment-packed mega-mall north of Montreal called Lac Mirabel. According to CBC Radio, the 14 million-square-foot facility will open in late 2007 and will include themed indoor rides, indoor go-kart tracks, a 140,000-square-foot aquarium, a hotel, and other attractions. The report didn't mention it, but given the explosion of new indoor water parks, I'd be surprised if Lac Mirabel didn't include one as well.
