Rx for U.S. Workers: Roller Coasters and Dark Rides--STAT!
Thursday June 2, 2005
You have to love the folks at Universal Orlando. When they're not inciting mayhem and blowing things up in Terminator 2: 3D, Men In Black Alien Attack, and just about every other attraction at their two edgy, in-your-face theme parks, they're busy scheming ways to get vacationers onto their Florida resort. The latest ploy: Universal is circulating a "study" that claims America's workforce is suffering from a "vacation crisis" and needs to get away more (presumably to oh, I don't know, UNIVERSAL ORLANDO?) in order to "take full advantage of life." According to the report, the problem is twofold. Many U.S. employers don't offer ample vacation time, and many employees don't use a lot of the vacation time granted them. Universal concludes that nearly half of the country's workers forfeited an average eight vacation days last year, and that foregoing days off can actually be detrimental to employees' health. So in the interest of personal well-being, corporate morale, and American patriotism, it's your duty to plan a vacation. If your boss doesn't like it, tell him or her to shove it. If that doesn't go over too well, maybe you seek the help of The Mummy to extract some revenge.
