Too Bad Disneyland's Golden Anniversary can't Be Every Year
Thursday May 19, 2005
Sparked by advance bookings for Disneyland's 50th anniversary celebration, higher per-capita spending, and increased international visitors, the theme parks division helped second-quarter profits rise 30 percent at The Walt Disney Co. Net earnings also rose to $698 million from $537 million in the same period last year, according to an Associated Press article. Disney's good news should translate to great third-quarter results for the company as well, when revenue from the launch of the Happiest Celebration on Earth events at all of its theme parks is included. And Disney's good news should be good news for theme parks and the travel industry at large. Despite rising gas prices, vacationers appear to be poised for a robust summer season after a few years of vacation wariness triggered by a stagnant economy and post-9/11 jitters.
