Disneyland Hopes to Bring Crush of Guests, Generate Monster Numbers with New Attractions
Saturday May 7, 2005
Amid the celebratory hoopla of Disneyland's 50th anniversary bash, with its focus on the landmark's glorious past and the new attractions and events it just debuted, park president Matt Ouimet announced two additional attractions that will open in the near future. Both of the attractions, Turtle Talk with Crush, and Monsters, Inc.: Mike and Sulley to the Rescue, are slated for Disney's California Adventure, the under-performing park located across from Disneyland. Based on the surfer-dude character from the hit film, "Finding Nemo," Turtle Talk will use groundbreaking real-time, voice-activated animation to present live, unstructured conversations with audience members. The cloned attraction has already been wowing guests at Walt Disney World's Epcot since its debut a few months ago. The Monsters attraction, based on the film, "Monsters, Inc.," will take over the building that housed the much-maligned Superstar Limo. According to Imagineer Kevin Rafferty, it will use the same ride system and incorporate forty animatronic figures to immerse guests in the story of Boo, a child intruder in the Monster world, and Mike and Sulley's attempts to protect her from the nefarious Child Detection Agency. Rafferty says a re-telling of the film's door vault scene will be a highlight and that the attraction will be in the mold of "classic Disney dark rides." Both of the new attractions are based on Pixar Animation Studios films. Turtle Talk opens in July, while Monsters kicks off in January.
