Busch Gardens Lifts the Curse

Monday May 2, 2005
Busch Gardens Williamsburg lowered the drawbridge on one of the season's most eagerly anticipated attractions, Curse of DarKastle. So what is it like? Think of a traditional amusement park dark ride. On steroids. It is a 20th-Century-style romp through a haunted, Gothic 15th-Century castle using cutting-edge 21st-Century technology. As with the beloved dark rides that used to be staples at trolley parks, Curse features spooky corridors, things that go bump in the faux night, and loads of "gimmicks" or gotchas to scare the devil out of riders. But this ride's gotchas incorporate 3-D CGI animation, roving motion-base vehicles, "4-D" sensory enhancements, onboard audio, and other new-age features. It's an incredible achievement, particularly for a seasonal park like Busch Gardens Williamsburg. Read my review.
