New Theme Parks Slated for Nebraska and Arizona?

Friday April 15, 2005
Nearly every major (and most minor) metropolitan area in the U.S. has at least one theme park within driving distance. While new water parks, particularly indoor water parks, continue to flourish, there are scarcely any American theme parks in development. But two projects under consideration have been making a bit of noise and may see the light of day. Wild Escape, part of an ambitious planned resort community called Port Nebraska, near Omaha, would include coasters, thrill rides, concerts, and other themed entertainment. The project would offer year-round fun with a proposed indoor theme park and water park, as well as a large outdoor park. In Arizona meanwhile, the Arizona Capitol Times reports that a group of investors wants to build a 1000-acre theme park in the Kaibab National Forest. The park would feature areas themed to--get this--the Old West, Route 66, and the Renaissance. Developers hope to capture tourists headed to the nearby Grand Canyon.
