Who will Snap Up Legoland?
Friday April 8, 2005
With business sinking like a brick at Lego Systems, the Danish toy company is looking to unload its four theme Legoland theme parks. According to MSNBC, sales of the company's signature plastic snap-together blocks have been on a downward spiral over the past few years, and Lego wants to generate some cash and focus on its traditional toys. The parks it seeks to divest are located in Carlsbad, CA, north of San Diego, Windsor in the U.K., Günzburg in Germany, and Billund in Denmark. No potential buyers were cited, but industry sources say that U.K.-based The Tussauds Group, operator of attractions such as England's Thorpe Park and Alton Towers as well as five Madame Tussauds museums, may be a front runner.
