Your (Free) Magic Carpet Awaits

Thursday December 30, 2004
One of the hassles of a Walt Disney World vacation is getting from Orlando International Airport to your hotel. With its new "Magical Express" service, Disney is removing most of the hassle and all of the costs for guests staying on-property. Starting May 5, 2005, to coincide with the kick-off of the 18-month "Happiest Celebration on Earth" marking Disneyland's 50th anniversary, Disney World hotel guests will board complimentary motor coaches to shuttle them from and back to the airport. Disney says the free service will be available to passengers on American Airlines, Continental Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Song, United Airlines, and Ted and that it hopes to add additional air carriers to the program. Guests will check their bags once at their hometown airport, bypass Orlando's baggage carousel, and get their bags delivered right to their hotel rooms. The return to the airport is even better: Guests will bypass the airport lines altogether by checking their luggage and picking up their boarding passes at their hotel. Of course adding another layer of baggage handling increases the likelihood of lost luggage. And depending on Disney's airport check-in lines and the frequency of its shuttle departures, you may be able to get to the property much quicker if you take a cab or rent a car. But if Disney can iron out the kinks, this appears to be an incredible benefit--and you can't beat the price. Disney says that there is no minimum stay required to use the Magical Express service.
