World Series Hero Goes to Disney World
Thursday October 28, 2004
So, Curt Schilling, you pitched some near-perfect games and helped lead the long-suffering Red Sox to an astounding eight consecutive post-season wins and a World Series Championship. Now whatchya gonna do? How sweet it is to hear Boston's incredible pitcher make the now-famous victory cry, "I'm going to Disney World!" (Did I mention I'm Boston-born and -bred?) Schilling, who took the name, "Red Sox," a bit too literally when his messed-up ankle tendon caused him to bleed into his cleats, nonetheless performed heroically on the mound. And Walt Disney World gave him a hero's welcome today, complete with a Main Street U.S.A. parade in his honor. That's the Sox pitcher on the right, next to a certain beloved rodent. Schilling, fellow pitching ace Pedro Martinez, and Sox slugger David Ortiz will all be featured in this season's version of the I'm-going-to-Disney-World television commercial. Enduring 86 years without a championship, the Red Sox Nation, those tormented, yet somehow faithful New England fans, finally got their fairytale ending. Now that they've had a taste of seeing their dreams come true after wishing upon nearly a century's worth of stars, maybe a lot of them will be heading to Walt Disney World as well.
