This Weather Blows
Monday September 27, 2004
I can't believe I'm writing this again, but yet another hurricane has closed the gates of Florida's theme parks this season. (And I bet the folks operating the parks and the vacationers visiting the parks can’t believe it either.) According to the Orlando Sentinel, Walt Disney World, Universal Orlando, SeaWorld, and other area parks all locked their turnstiles Saturday evening and remained closed Sunday. The area sustained some minor damage, and most of the parks reopened today. Disney's Fort Wilderness Campground is still closed on Monday. According to the Orlando Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, Gatorland, Wet n' Wild, Winter Park Scenic Boat Tour, and Wordspring Discover Center are closed Monday, but are planning to re-open on Tuesday. In its 31-year history, Walt Disney World has only closed its gates a handful of days, three of them over the last few weeks. Let's hope the hurricanes have run out of steam this year, and the closest Florida gets to any more nasty weather is the Twister attraction at Universal Studios Florida.
