Ronald Reagan was Among the First to Visit Disneyland
Friday June 11, 2004
Before he was president, Ronald Reagan, of course, had a storied Hollywood career. Along with Art Linkletter and Walt Disney, Reagan helped host the television show that marked Disneyland's grand opening in 1955. With still-soft asphalt, construction delays, and other snafus, the opening was anything but smooth. Reagan and the other emcees reportedly worked without a script and adlibbed their way through the program. Disneyland overcame its rocky start and evolved into the prototypical theme park, inspiring other Disney and non-Disney parks around the world. Reagan is featured along with all of the other U.S. heads of state in Walt Disney World's Hall of Presidents attraction at the Magic Kingdom. Linkletter, almost 92, recently helped kick off the countdown to Disneyland's 50th anniversary celebration, dubbed The Happiest Celebration on Earth.
