Is Cypress Gardens in for a Wild Adventure?

Wednesday December 17, 2003
Florida's venerable Cypress Gardens, one of the state's original tourist attractions, closed last season after years of declining attendance. Its fate had been unsure, but if plans move forward, the plucky owners of Georgia's Wild Adventures theme park will take over the struggling property and infuse it with some thrill rides and other amenities. According to the Gainseville Sun, the complicated proposed deal that would bring Cypress Gardens back to life involves local, regional, and state agencies, as well as private parties. The Wild Adventures folks say that they plan to honor the park's traditions of water ski shows and manicured gardens, but would also add coasters and other attractions to broaden its audience. The park could open as early as next spring if the deal is approved.
